BASTROP, LA - Ben Ralph Dunn, age 66, of Bastrop, LA. was born January 23, 1936 in Bastrop, LA and died October 17, 2002 at Richardson Medical Center.
Survivor include his wife: Juanita Dunn of Bastrop; daughters: Dr. Gigi Dunn of Pumpkin Center LA, Anne Claire Dunn Stephenson of Bastrop; son-in-law: Curtis Stephenson of Bastrop; daughter: Megan Dunn Meador of Mer Rouge, LA; son-in-law: Scotty Meador of Mer Rouge, LA; grandsons: Tyler and Zachary Stephenson, both of Bastrop; sister: Sharon Dunn Alexander of Wesson, MS; brother: Prentiss C. "Speedy" Dunn of Vienna, Austria; special friend: Louise Lee of Collinson, LA.
He was preceded in death by his father: Prentiss Franklin Dunn; and his mother: Bennie Louise Dunn.
Pallbearers will be Larry Bradley, Carl Cathey, George Clark, C.J. Fontana, Grant Foster, Elva Gree, Ed Henry and Lynn Shornacy.
Ben was an insurance agent for 37 years owning Ben R. Dunn Agency, Inc. The last 10 years Ben has shared his business with his daughter Megan in Dunn & Dunn Financial Services. Ben Ralph Dunn led Fidelity Union/Allianz Life Insurance Companies as top salesman 3 different years. He was also recognized as one of the top twelve agents for over 32 years with his company. Mr. Dunn held the distinction of being the first agent with his copany to have over 100 million dollars of life insurance in force. Ben was a founding member of the Five Million Dollar Forum and was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable.
Outside of family and insurance sales, Ben Ralph Dunn enjoyed officiating college basketball. He refereed in the Southeastern Conference, Metro Conference, Southland Conference and Sun Belt Conference for 32 years.
After graduating Cum Laude from Northeast Louisiana University Ben began his career as a school teacher with the Morehouse Parish School System. He also served as a juvenile detention officer with the Morehouse Parish School System. He also served as a juvenile detention officer with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Office.
Ben loved the times he spent in service to his community by teaching swimming to children, raising funds for Morehouse Parish American Cancer Society and sharing his great love of the Christmas season by dressing as Santa and giving treats and gifts to children. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church of Bastrop, American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
Visitation will be Saturday from 4 until 7 PM at the church.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 20, 2002 at Christ Episcopal Church in Bastrop, LA with Rev. Herman Ogea officiating. Interment will be in Bonne Idee-Harp Cemetery in Mer Rouge, LA.
