Roomie Wilson, Well-Known Official, Dies
HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Hollis (Roomie) Wilson, a nationally known sports official, died Friday. Wilson, 53, had been hospitalized for several weeks after suffering a heart attack.
Wilson was best known, nationally as a basketball official. He had officiated games in Madison Square Garden, the NCAA championship tournament and the Sugar Bowl and All-College Tournaments.
Wilson was a professor of biology at Southeastern Louisiana College here. He was an authority on mosses and lichens.
Wilson graduated from Southeastern Louisiana in 1939. He had been a starter on SLC's football team in every game during his four years as an undergraduate. The college's 1936 team was undefeated.
Wilson also served as a football official and baseball umpire.
Funeral services are scheduled Sunday.
Survivors include his widow and two children.
