Kentucky Shatters Alabama Five by 67 to 41
Davis Leads Revenge-Seeking Wildcats to Easy S.E.C. Victory
Lexington, Ky., Feb. 6 - Infuriated by a 41-32 licking handed them by the Crimson Tide a week ago, a determined and rejuvenated Kentucky Wildcat quint cut loose with a fury of baskets here tonight to swamp Alabama 67-41.
The performance,given before a capacity crowd of more than 4,000 cage enthusiasts, was the best Coach Adolph Rupp's Rifle have staged on the home floor this season.
After the first minute Alabama was never in it and Kentucky rollicked along with at least a 20-point margin.
Wildcat forward Milt Ticco opened the scoring with a couple of shots from the side and after Maurice "Red" Bell had countered with a fielder for the Tide, Kentucky took off and led 40-23 at the half juncture.
STANDOUTS
Although the entire Kentucky team presented a stellar show of power, the play of Muff Davis, forward, was especially brilliant. Aside from notching 19 points and gaining high scoring honors he helped the Rupp clan dominate the rebound phase of the battle. Also impressive was Clyde Parker, who started in place of Marvin Akers at the guard berth. The consistent Ticco chalked up 14 points.
Jim Homer, Alabama center, collected four fielders and six free throws for 14 points and the best offensive contribution for the Tide. Maurice Bell contributed 12 points for the visitors.
A total of 39 fouls marred the contest. Kentucky was charged with 24 fouls, Ticco, Parker and Ken Rollins going out on four personals. Bell was eliminated by the same route from Alabama's line-up.
The victory gave the first-place Cats a record of six victories and one defeat in the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats will be host to Xavier Monday night.
