Comeback Staged by University of Kentucky in Last Half Fails to Bring Success

PENNANT SEEMS CLINCHED

DANVILLE, Ky., Jan. 25 -- Staging a comeback in the second half that was just a little short of miraculous, but not sufficient to give them victory, Kentucky's Wildcats went down to defeat at the hands of Centre's Colonels tonight in one of the hardest fought basket ball games ever seen here, by a score of 38 to 30.

The victory tonight practically gies the basket ball championship of the State to Centre for the second time in as many years. With defeats already administered Transylvania and several other colleges of the State only the University of Kentucky stood between the Colonels and the championship.

The game was fast throughout, both teams showing clever defense and fair scoring ability. In the first half Centre had things their own way, scoring 25 points to 9 of the Wildcats.

Getting more accustomed to the floor in the second half the Wildcats opened up with a burst of speed and started a rally which until the time the final whistle blew appeared as if it might result disastrously for Centre' colonels. During this half the Cats scored 21 points to Centre's 13.

Everett, at forward for Kentucky, played the best game for the visitors, his goal shooting and defense being one of the features of the contest. Davis, McMillan and Atkins put forth the best effort for Centre playing in a fasion which indicated long associated team play.

Kentucky was handicapped by the absence of Joseph Dishman, captain of the team, who was out of the lineup, having taken suddenly ill with influenza several days ago.
