HANSEN, William H.
HANSEN, William H., 79, Kentucky's first Commissioner of State Police, died Monday.
He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and son of the late Andrew and Caroline Hansen.
Mr. Hansen was a graduate of the Battle Grant Physical Education University and the University of Kentucky Law School, he served in World Wars I and II with the U.S. Army, from which he retired as a lieutenant colonel, was a retired attorney for the Veterans Administration and was named Commissioner of the State Police during the first administration of Gov. A.B. Chandler.
He was a member of the Central Christian Church, Sigma Chi Fraternity, the American Legion and the Retired Officer's Association.
Surviving are his wife: Mrs. Nanette Hobbs Hansen; one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn McCormick and two granddaughters: Misses Connie and Stephanie McCormick, all of Lexington.
Services 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Rev. M. Glynn Burke and Rev. Maurice D. Robertson will officiate with burial in Lexington Cemetery.
Active bearers will be members of Man 'O War post American Legion. Honorary bearers: Oscar Orr, former Governor Albert B. Chandler, Bart Peak, Elwood Colman, J.B. Adams, W.M. Moore, J.B. Fightmaster, Dr. Walter D. Frey and Dr. Arnold C. Williams. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
