Jansing Proves Star of Fast Contest - Locals Lead All the Way

By defeating the State University basketball team last night at Tharp's Gymnasium by the score of 50 to 25, the St. Andrews quintet evened up the race for the State championship, it having previously been defeated by the Wildcats at Lexington by the score of 37 to 15.

Last night's game was fast and snappy from start to finish, the St. Andrews team taking the lead at the beginning of the contest and holding the advantage throughout the game. However, the game was much closer than the score indicated, the State team at times playing all around the Louisville quintet. These spurts were infrequent, however, while the locals played consistent ball all the way.

The local team got the jump on the Wildcats at the start and scored four field goals before the State five could score. The Saints held this lead and ended the half on the long end of a 23 to 10 score. The collegians braced in the second half and showed the spectators some real basketball, but missed several hard goals and scored only fifteen points to their opponent's twenty-seven.

The work of Jansing featured the contest, the tall center getting ten field goals. Scott and Tuttle played star games for the Blue and White, the latter's work against Seelbach, keeping the St. Andrews star to two goals, being good. Morgan also played a nice game for the visitors.

Tonight the State team will mix it up with the University of Louisville quintet and a lively time is expected, as the Cardinals are very anxious to be revenged on the Wildcats for the defeat handed to them at Lexington. The State and Louisville girls' teams will also play, and two excellent games of basketball should develop. The game will be played at the Y.M.C.A. and will start at 8:15 o'clock sharp.

A fast preliminary game was played between the Immanuel Presbyterian team of Louisville and the Jeffersonville Presbyterians, the Hoosier boys winning by the score of 22 to 17. Louis Williams starred for Jeffersonville, while Meeks played best for the local five.
