Tussle Featured by Intense Spirit of Rivalry Between Players

In a game featured by unusual roughness, due to the spirit of rivalry between the teams and the closeness of the score throughout, the State University basketball team took their second in a series of two games from the Volunteers of the University of Tennessee before a good sized audience at the Woodland Auditorium last night by the score of 20 to 18. Feeling between the players ran high throughout the game. Several times in the first half, which ended 11 to 8 in favor of the visitors, and three times in the second half the score was tied, and the game was anybody's until the whistle blew to end the contest.

The Tennessee lads piled up a score of five points in the beginning before a State man had tossed the ball through the goal. The audience in the balcony stood during the greater part of the game, so close was the score and so intense was the enthusiasm of the spectators. When the game opened for the last half the score stood 11 to 8 against the State boys, but within two minutes of play a goal and a foul had placed them on even terms.

The referee, Keith, of Richmond State Normal, ordered Jacobs, of Tennessee, out of the game for personal fouls twenty seconds before the whistle blew at the close. Zerfoss, who was substituted for Morgan in the last half, broke the 16 to 16 tie with a pretty goal and this was repeated again by Tuttle before the close. McSpadden, at guard for Tennessee, threw a sensational goal from the center of the field for the visitor's last score.

McSpadden, with four field goals to his credit, played stellar ball for Tennessee, while Morgan and Server played well for Kentucky.

Repeated fouling by both teams marred the game. Fifteen fouls were called on Tennessee to eight on Kentucky.

LEXINGTON, Ky., Feb. 18. - The State University "Wildcats" tonight again defeated the "Volunteers" of the University of Tennessee, thereby making the series of the four basketball games two and two. The final score was 20 to 18. There was strong feelings between the teams and the game was frequently rough. Several times in the first half, which ended 11 to 8 in favor of the visitors and three times in the second half, the score was tied and the game was anybody's until the whistle blew to end the contest.
