DOUBLE VICTORY FOR CARDINALS

Both Boys' and Girls' Basketball Teams Turn Tables on Wildcats.

THRILLING PLAY DEVELOPS

Upsetting all previous hope and expectations of the most optimistic followers of the teams, the University of Louisville girls' and men's teams defeated the State fives in two of the most thrilling and exciting games of basketball played here this season. The scores were 11 to 8 in the girls' game and 26 to 15 in the men's contest.

Both games were fast and furnished thrill after thrill for the big crowd, and although rough, were clean. Both the Cardinal teams jumped into the lead at the start of the games and by dazzling team work and accurate goal shooting kept the Wildcats at bay.

The girls' game was played first and proved one of the best of its kind ever seen in Louisville. The scoring was done almost entirely on free throws, only one field goal being made. Miss Daisy McCallum getting it near the first of the game. The Louisville team, strengthened by the addition of Miss Koop, at guard, started with a rush and played their opponents off their feet. The score at the end of the first half was 5 to 3. Neither team could score a field goal in the second period, but Miss Wimp, through her superior throwing of fouls, kept the lead for the locals. The State team scored five points in this half to the Cardinals' six.

Outplay Visitors.

The final contest found the Cardinals playing up to their true form and they outplayed the visitors from start to finish. The game was rough and many fouls were called, and McCaleb's success in scoring points in this manner helped the Louisville boys along greatly. The Wildcats seemed dazed by the fast teamwork of the Cardinals and could only score 5 points to their opponents' 14. They picked up in the last half, but could not overcome the big lead secured by the Red and Black five in the first period.

Misses Wimp, McCallum and Koop played star games for the local girls, the latter's work against Miss Olive Taul, State's star forward, being especially noticeable. To pick a star out of the men's team would be difficult, as they all played a star game and worked together as they had not done this season. John Daniels was in the game after a long absence, and played a good game at guard. Tuttle and Morgan played best for the State men, while Misses Hughes and Woods played best for the girls. Miss Heller's throwing of fouls also featured the Bluegrass girls' work.
