Lyle Page Varnell
ADAMSVILLE - Lyle Page Varnell, 80, retired postmaster after 44 years, died Tuesday at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after a stroke. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Adamsville, where he was a member for 50 years and a Sunday school teacher, with burial in Adamsville Cemetery.
Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer has charge.
He was past president of Tennessee Postmasters Association and Adamsville Lions Club. He also was past president of Pickwick Electric Cooperative Board and a board member for 31 years. He was a retired Southeastern Conference basketball official after 10 years. He was a member of the board of directors of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Adamsville and a 53-year member of Masonic Lodge 338.
Mr. Varnell, the husband of Loudine Varnell, also leaves a daughter, Jan V. McGee of Memphis; a sister, Gladys Varnell of Adamsville; a brother, Larry Lee Varnell of Denver, Colo.; three half-sisters, Mary Tucker and Peggy Varnell, both of Memphis, and Mattie Owen of Bolivar, and two grandsons.
