Kentucky hands Bulldogs First Conference Loss
The University of Georgia basketball team was nosed out by the Kentucky Wildcats in an extra five minutes of play here Saturday night to the tune of 22-21. The score was deadlocked 18-18 at the end of the regular playing period. This close game was the first conference defeat Georgia had received this year.
After Georgia had held a small lead from the beginning of the game, the Wildcats lead by Mallard (sic), center; Lewis McGinnis, substitute forward, and Captain McBrayer, guard, rallied and knotted the count at 17-all with four minutes left to play. Tommy Reeder, Bulldog guard, sank a foul try and Mallard (sic) shot a foul try to tie the score again. Here the game ended.
In the extra period, McGinnis and Mallard sank a basket apiece before Sandy Sandford could find the hoops. Kentucky was leading by two points with two minutes and fifteen seconds left to play. Captain Henry Palmer would fouled and made his try good, bringing Georgia to within one point of a tie. The game was nearing its close, the Bulldogs fought vainly but the Wildcats refused to be beaten.
Each team shot eight goals apiece but Georgia's failure to make good on foul shots cost her the game. Captain Henry Palmer played one of the best games of his spectacular career, and amassed 7 points.
