Previously two papers, the Lexington Herald and the Lexington Leader. Does an excellent job of covering the Wildcats although there is a history between the two with the Herald Leader being, at times, the program's harshest critic. Availability of microfilms seems limited to the University of Kentucky library with the exception that the Library of Congress holds issues since 1976. The web site contains a searchable archive of stories back to the early 80's which is very valuable in researching UK Basketball. The cost, however, is high.

One of the few papers which is carried on microfilm by most respectable libraries. Did an excellent job of reporting Kentucky box scores when UK traveled to New York City in the mid-30's until the early 1950's along with NIT games and the Olympic Trials. During this time, the sports section of the Times was actually very good. I'm not sure when the paper fell prey to the misguided notion that a paper can only be well regarded if it has a lousy sports section, but they've been lousy for at least a few decades. This, IMO, prevents the current New York Times from being a nearly perfect newspaper.

Suffers from the same affliction of the New York Times in that it seems to believe that to be a respectable paper, it needs to have a lousy sports section. Add to this the syndrome of being mainly a professional sports town with feigned interest toward collegiate athletics and you get a poor product. In fact, over the last fifty of so years, this is perhaps the worst sports page from a nationally known general newspaper that I've ever seen. And I'm not saying that just because John Feinstein used to work there, although they certainly have that going against them too. :-)
