STATE UNIVERSITY QUINTETTES WIN TWO IMPORTANT GAMES OF BASKET BALL

Both the Louisville Y.M.C.A. and the Henderson High School fives went down before State University quintettes Saturday night at the State University gymnasium in two fast games, characterized by an abundance of fouls, and the splendid team work of the 'Varsity.' The Varsity defeated Louisville 30 to 21, while the second team outthrew the Henderson lads by the close score of 21 to 18.

W.E. Brown of Louisville, umpired and W.E. King of Lexington, refereed the 'Varsity - Y.M.C.A. contest, which was played off first. The first half ended 18 to 7 in favor of State. Preston, the 'Varsity's capable center, was by far the most brilliant luminary and made 12 of the 18 points scored - six goals from fouls and three from the field. Zerfoss made two field goals and Morgan made one. Wilson did the scoring for Louisville, with five fouls and one field goal.

The Y.M.C.A. netmen came back strong in the second half and ran up 14 points, the scores being made by Jansing and Wilson, who again proved to be a "never-miss" man when throwing from the foul line. However, State added twelve tallies to her previously scored eighteen, which, of course, easily withheld the laurel wreath from Louisville's brow. Morgan tossed four field goals, Tuttle two and Preston put two in the net from the foul line.

The match between the "Kittens" and the Henderson five was of the fast and furious variety, especially furious and registered a superabundance of fouls on both sides. Peck, the second team forward, played a splendid game and seemed able to put the ball in the basket from any angle, making nine of the twenty-one tallies - four field goals and one from the foul line. "Jimmie" Parks threw two in from the field. Henderson's center, Server, did the best work and the most scoring for the High School.

University Teams Win 2 Basketball Games

Varsity Downs Louisville Y.M.C.A. and Kittens Defeat Henderson

State University won both their basketball games last night at the university gymnasium, the varsity team defeating the Louisville Y.M.C.A. aggregation by the score of 30 to 21, and the "Kittens" taking a hard fought contest from Henderson High School by a score of 21 to 17, with a team largely composed of first team substitutes.

The playing was somewhat mixed up, owing to the fact that they were played half under the A.A.U. rules and half under the intercollegiate rules, and the fouling was almost continuous.

In the first game State played much more consistently than did the Louisville boys, who tried many long shots, most of them going wild while their passing was rather erratic. Morgan, T. Zerfoss and Preston played a great game for State, while Wilson probably did the best work for the visitors. The little guard's work on foul goals was great. Louisville made only three field goals during the game, while Morgan alone made four for State. Louisville's playing improved in the second half, but they gained only one point on the locals.

The second game was somewhat tame in the opening minutes, but soon became considerable of a rough and tumble struggle. State's guarding was too much for the visitors in the first half and they scored only one field goal, but they picked up in the second period and gained rapidly on the "Kittens."

Brown and Server played a beautiful game for Henderson, with Peck and Schrader doing stellar roles for the Blue and White.
