SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (AP) - Col. Alpha Brumage, retired Army officer who was captain of the Kansas football team in 1903, died in a San Antonio hospital Monday. He was 82.
Brumage was a star fullback in his three years on the Kansas football team. He coached at Ottawa University in 1906 and 1907, at William Jewell in 1908 and 1909 and at Virginia Military Institute in 1911.

Col. Brumage, Ex-Coach, Dies
A football star during the early part of the century who later went into coaching, then became an Army officer died Monday in a San Antonio hospital.
He was Col. Alpha Brumage (Ret.), 82, of 4761 View Dr.
Col. Brumage played three years of football at the University of Kansas and was captain of the team in 1900. He was rated as an outstanding fullback.
He continued his football career as a coach and was head coach of Ottawa, Kan., University in 1906 and 1907, at William Jewell College in Missouri from 1908 through 1909 and was grid coach at Virginia Military Institute in 1911.
Col. Brumage went into the army as an artillery officer during World War I, where he had a distinctive military record. He retired during World War II.
Brumage was a native of Kansas and had lived in San Antonio since his retirement 19 years ago. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church here.
Service for Col. Brumage will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Tuesday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. James Joseph officiating.
Following services, the body will be taken to Dallas for graveside services Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Restland Cemetery. Porter Loring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers for the funeral here are Brig. Gen. Robert M. Sheetz, Maj. Gen. John G. VanHouten, Capt. John N. Greene, Dr. Everett Wilson and Paul Renton Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Lt. Gen. Walter Krueger, Col. Richard Gordon, Col. Robert M. Milam, Col. John E. Hatch and Jesse J. Lass.
Col. Brumage is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Millice Brumage; two sons, Dr. Robert N. Brumage of Dallas, and Dr. William S. Brumage of Austin; one brother, Harry Brumage of Laramie, Wyo.; and three grandchildren.
