BOWERS, Robert Green (Bobby)
September 23, 2004. Native Nashvillian. Born 1914. He was married to the late Helen Gilbert in 1942 and they were married until her death in 1996.
He served as a corporal in the Army from 1942-1946 stationed in France and England. Was a charter member of SEC officials from 1947-1963.
He attended East high School; worked at Heritage Feed Mills early in his life; was an assistant to Mayor Ben West in the early sixties and tired from Sherman Concrete Pipe Company.
He is survived by seven children Amanda Bowers, Debra Bowers, Lynn Caldwell, Helen Bowers and Richad Bowers, all of Nashville, Robert G. Bowers, Jr. of Fairview, TN and Leslie Wheler of Woodbury, TN., two sisters Alberta Frank and Katherine Henry, both of FL; and two brothers, Richard Bowers of FL, and harry Bowers of AL; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday September 27, 2004 in the Chapel of Roesch Patton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Caldwell, Marvin Wheeler, Pete Delay, Clark CAlvert, R. A. Dickey, Fletcher Caldwell and Robert Bowers, III. Memorial contirbutions may be made to a charity of ones choice

Bobby Bowers, father of Ensworth High AD and football coach, Ricky Bowers, died recently . He was 90.
Bowers attended East High, where he was all-city in basketball and baseball before dropping out after his junior year.
"He was a Depression-era kid, the second of seven children," Ricky said this week. "He served in the Army during WWII."
Bobby Bowers once struck out 21 consecutive batters in a high school baseball game. He also pitched both end of a double-header, pitching a perfect game in the opening game.
Bobby Bowers was among the early SEC basketball officials, working SEC games 1947-1963. He also officiated football and basketball for TSSAA from the 193s through the '50s.
"He may be the only (SEC) official to give (Kentucky legend) Adolph Rupp two technicals in a game," Ricky said.
Bobby was the uncle of Texas Rangers pitcher R.A. Dickey. His brother, Richard Bowers, played basketball and baseball at UT and is the AD at South Florida.
