Wildcats Win Last Contest
FEST, RIEFKIN OUTSTANDING
Wound up from nine consecutive defeats, the University of Kentucky basketball machine 'busted' last night throwing parts and miscellaneous organisms into the gears of the University of the South outfit, and defeated the Sewanee five in the last game of the season for the Wildcats. The score was 30 to 14.
Tired of losing games and realizing that their last chance to score a victory before the season closed had come, the Blue and White quintet made the most of the opportunity and slammed the Tigers all over the university gymnasium.
Neither team played good basketball, although the members of both squads fought hard. Kentucky's offensive worked much better than that of the Tigers and Fest and Riefkin, of the Wildcats, found the basket more often. The Tigers missed many crip shots.
Kentucky started the scoring when Fest threw a field goal soon after the game opened. Sewanee came back in a twinkling with a basket by Perry. The Wildcats got under way and ran their total up to 16 in this half, while the visitors were garnering eight, mostly on fouls.
The Wildcats maintained their advantage in the last half, and in the last five minutes; Coach Buchheit sent in the "wrecking crew," Blue and White substitutes. The scrubs played the Tigers even.
Fest and Riefkin played good floor games and were responsible for most of the points for Kentucky. Rice and Burnham played good games at guard and were responsible for the visitors' low score. Shook played the visitors' best game.
