Three's a charm: Cats rip UNC 98-81
CHAPEL HILL, N. Car. - Kentucky is still king of the hill.
The Cats won the battle of college basketball's two winningest programs for the third consecutive season, drilling North Carolina 98-81 at the Smith Center.
Kentucky's experience trumped North Carolina's youth and athleticism, as the Cats used a 58-point second half and 66.7 percent shooting for the game to pull away.
Gerald Fitch had a career-high 25 points, while Keith Bogans and Marquis Estill added 20 each. All 20 of Estill's points came after intermission.
"We wanted to go directly to (Estill)," UK Coach Tubby Smith said. "(Sean) May was in foul trouble and we wanted to attack the basket. The kids did a good job of passing the ball and finding (Estill) inside."
UK improved to 4-1 on the season despite missing Cliff Hawkins and Antwain Barbour. Carolina lost a second-straight blowout to fall to 5-2.
