Rupp Wants Tilt With Marshall Here Annually
Praises the Work of Darby and Johnson
TULANE IS NEXT
Coach Rupp of the University of Kentucky Wildcats stated that he was well pleased with the game with Marshall College at the high school gym Saturday night and hoped that the game would be made an annual affair.
Rupp went on to say "I like to play in Ashland because they send so many fine boys to the University and the people are unusually nice to the squad while they are here." He went on to say that arrangement had already been started by the athletic association at the high school to bring these two teams together next year in Ashland.
In answer to a question about Johnson and Darby's ability as players he said, "I am more than pleased with the work of both. Darby was handicapped tonight by a slippery floor caused by dust and slipped time after time as he attempted his favorite shot, a pivot near the sideline and a quick dribble in for a crip. He began shooting long ones and hit four. I believe before he was removed for Lawrence."
DeMoisey, the lanky forward and center, played with Walton high school before entering the University. It is located in a small town near Covington, Rupp said.
In talking about Captain Sale, he said that this All American collegiate forward of his was not up to his usual form. Sale who has an all time scoring average of fourteen and a half points a game made only three points. DeMoisey, he said, was not playing over his head last night but turned in his usual performance.
The crowd of about 1500 was satisfying and would probably have been larger if the road from Huntington had not been so slippery. The Wildcats return to Lexington where they played Tulane on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CHARITY TO GET MONEY; KITTENS PLAY IN OPENER
Johnson and Darby Are Kentucky Wildcat Regulars
BEARD WITH 'GREEN'
The Thundering Herd of Marshall College will come out of Huntington tonight to vie with the vaunted strength of the Kentucky Wildcats in a basketball game at the Senior high school gymnasium.
The Cats will rule favorites and will present a squad with All-Americans and All-Southerns galore.
Two of these, Ellis Johnson and Darrell Darby, are Ashland boys and former Tomcats.
Coach Dandelet of Marshall will present a veteran squad selected from Kincaid, Stephens, Beard, Donohue, Morris and Gill. Forwards, Hallanan, Greenlee and Humphreys, guards and Ramey Hunter at Center. Beard is a Catlettsburg youth.
Two of the mainstays of Dandelet's team were declared ineligible until Jan. 26. These boys, Barkey (sp?), former Tomcat, and Chetwin, have not the year's residence required by the Buckeye Conference of which Marshall is a new member. Dandelet is confident however, of putting a team on the floor that will give a creditable account of itself.
Coach Rupp and his squad are due in Ashland about noon. With an eye on the Southeastern Conference crown with the greatest galaxy of stars ever assembled on one team at that school the Kentucky coach will probably use a goodly number of the players that he brings along. Ellis Johnson is a guard and Darrell Darby a forward and both are regulars.
As a preliminary to this game, the Kittens will engage the strong Starr-Stuart quintet of Huntington in their season's opener. Both teams have their squads intact from last year and should put up a fast and scrappy game under the new rules of this year.
Tickets are on sale at Steele & Lawrence drug store.
The whole west side has been reserved for Ashland fans. It was announced this morning that Marshall College students, would be admitted for fifty cents if they presented their athletic books at the window. Other boys and girls in school at other places also will be admitted for this price, but these tickets must be bought at the door of the the gym and the students must be identified in some manner. Adult tickets are $1.00 and the proceeds of the game other than bare expenses is to go to aid the underprivileged children in Ashland.
The Kittens' game starts at 7:00 and the Kentucky-Marshall tilt at 8:00. Dicky Bray will referee.
