Visitors Show Fight in Game With Kentucky
Poor Shooting and Frequent Bad Passes Mark Third Victory for Locals
Kentucky's Wildcats won their third consecutive victory of the basketball season Wednesday night, 41 to 25, at the expense of Berea College, but the Blue and White's performance was perhaps the most erratic the Cats have turned in this season.
The Rupp-coached crew was undoubtedly the better team on the court, but Berea offered a stubborn fight and caused no end of uneasiness at times.
Bad passes and repeated misses at the basket marked the Wildcats' third win, especially in the initial half when Kentucky shot 40 times at the hoop and connected for only six. The score at the half, 13 to 7, was unusual for a college game.
In the second half, with Sale playing havoc under the basket, the Wildcats showed improvement and more than doubled the points they had garnered in the first period. Berea, likewise, scored twice as often in the last half.
The only part of the Wildcat play that resembled former performances was the playing of Jake Bronston and Ellis Johnson a guards. Both showed an adeptness at breaking up close-in passing and taking the ball off the backboard.
Sale Gets Hot
Sale, who replaced Capt. Spicer at forward in the half and later moved to center when Yates was pulled, dropped through eight field goals from under or near the basket to finish high point man. If Sale masters his floor game as well as he has his shooting under the basket, future opponents of the Cats will find him an exceedingly tough man to handle.
Berea offered two threats in J. Wyatt and Wright, the latter a brother of the famous Berea center of former years. Both contributed seven points each to their team's total.
"Little" McGinnis was close on Sale's heels with 13 points as the result of his night's work.
The Berea game was the first of two for the Kentuckians this week and the Wildcats will open their Southern Conference program here Saturday night, meeting the Clemson College Tigers. No doubt, the Cats will receive a hard workout this afternoon to eliminate flaws revealed in the Berea game.

Rupp, However, Doubts His Quintet Will Have Easy Time
With two victories already under their belts, the University of Kentucky Wildcats will try for their third tonight at 8 o'clock in the University gymnasium, with Berea College netters furnishing the opposition.
Kentucky will enter the mach the favorite, but Coach Rupp is not taking any chances on his outfit taking the game in easy style and will start his best strength and give his reserves a chance later on if the first stringers are able to take care of the visitors.
Berea will present a hard fighting quintet and an improved one over the last season's club that played the Wildcats to a standstill here one year ago.
Evans, one of Berea's best forwards in a number of seasons is back in the lineup after a year's absence caused by an appendicitis operation at the beginning of the 1929-30 season.
Wright, who is the probable starter for Berea at center, is a brother of the famous Wright, who played several years ago for the Mountaineers when that club swept all opposition before it and won the state tournament at Winchester. The younger Wright proved his mettle in the alumni game last month by out-jumping his brother and playing a better floor game.
Coach Rupp will likely start the following against the Berea club: Capt. Spicer and McGinnis, forwards: George Yates, center and Ellis Johnson and Bill Trott, guards.
The Wildcats closed their preparation for this game Tuesday afternoon with a light workout that was followed by a 15-minute scrimmage, in which most of the reserves participated.
Tonight's game will be the first of two for the Wildcats this week. Saturday night, Coach Rupp will give his charges their first taste of Southern Conference this season against the Clemson College Tigers here.
