Obituary - Charles Bronston Sr., 96, Richmond (KY) Register (June 11, 2006)
He was born September 20, 1909, in Richmond. He grew up in Lexington and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1931. He loved sports and played football for UK as well as basketball from 1928 to 1932. He was on Coach Adolph Rupp's first basketball team.
"Jake" worked to help support his family from a very young age, delivering ice from a horse drawn wagon. By high school he was working for Greyhound Lines, Inc., where he remained until his retirement in 1970. His executive position with Greyhound moved him from Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia and Ohio making friends in each state.
After retirement, he and his wife, Mildred Makin Bronston, who preceded him in death in 1986, moved to Englewood, Fla., to pursue their mutual love of golf. Even with vision problems, he continued to play golf and work with the "over the hill gang" until the age of 92.
Jake is survived by: three children, Barbara Bronston of Becker, Fla., Charles Jr. and Marty Bronston of Ohio, and Jennie Lynn and Charles Dunn of Calif.; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; as well as many dear friends.
Family services at graveside will be in Richmond Cemetery, Richmond.
