WILDCATS AND TABBIES ARE BOTH VICTORIOUS

Boys Five Wallops Centre and Girls Take Measure of Wesleyan

In celebration of "Leap Year Night" the young ladies basketball team of State University divided the athletic program at the Auditorium last night with the men's quintet and the co-eds kept pace with their brothers by taking their game from Kentucky Wesleyan by the score of 13 to 10. The boys' varsity outclassed the Centre College five by the score of 38 to 15.

The girls' contest was more of a race than was the boys' procession and the interest that was developed among the spectators was intense. Both teams got away slowly, but by the time the second half was started the passing and goal shooting approached the spectacular. Miss Flannery of the Blue and White aggregation displayed rare ability in rolling safe tries and four different shots were added to the State count by her efforts. The Wesleyan team offered some of the best defensive work shown by a girls team here this year and they were never far behind the winners in the count. Miss Cooper led her teammates in scoring and landed three safely.

The clash was a guards contest all the way and the work of Misses Innes and Haydon featured. Miss Courtney also played an excellent defensive game.

Wildcats' Easy Picking

The boys had an easy time with the Centre College aggregation. Not that the game was tame, for as an instance of fast foot work and energetic guarding the clash was far out in front. To illustrate, there was a total of nineteen personal fouls called by Referee King and two young men were eliminated from active service by the operation of the four-foul rule. These hearties were Captain Karl Zerfoss, of State, and Veach, of Centre. Referee King did not see all that occurred.

The reason why the State outfit came out on top was their perfect co-operation in handing the leather about. But all eyes were glued on Hart and Ireland for this pair proved to be more than a battery of machine guns when it came to killing baskets. Hart drove five home to glory and Ireland knocked out seven. All the sub in the string were sent into the arena and most of these scored. The work of Gumbert was particularly interesting and his activity and sure-fingeredness continually interrupted drives from the Centre camp. Puryea got two goals for the visitors and should have had more but for uncanny hard luck rolling of his shots. Diddle snagged a nice bunch of fouls and played a good lead for his team.
