VOLS VANQUISH KENTUCKY STATE QUINTET IN EXCELLENT CONTEST
Tennessee, 35; Kentucky State 21
All of which shows that the Vols were once more victorious over the Kentuckians. This victory was gained in a hotly contested basketball game at Central Y.M.C.A. Friday night, after the Wild Cats had led the Vols a merry chase during the first half of the game. Reeder and Klein were in the limelight for the Tennesseans, although other members of the squad played creditable ball. For the visitors, Mr. Tuttle, of football fame [unreadable] job. He guarded Lum Reeder so closely during the first half of the game that the local star was given very few opportunities to distinguish himself.
The two teams were scheduled to line up again Saturday night, when another corking good game was on the program.

VOLUNTEERS VICTORIOUS
In First Game With Kentucky State Five
Visitors Led During First Half, But Tennessee Came Strong in the Second
Although outplayed in the first half of the game, the University of Tennessee basketball players came back strong in the second period of play, and won the first game of the series with the Kentucky State team Friday night by the score of 35 to 21. The game was played in the gymnasium at the Central Y.M.C.A., and was attended by a crowd that filled the gymnasium.
The game was hotly contested, and the score was just about even until a few minutes before the close of the second period. At the end of the first half, the score was 16 to 14 in favor of the visitors. Throughout the first ten minutes of the second half, the Kentuckians maintained their led, but about eight minutes before the close of the half, a goal from the field by Lum Reeder put the Volunteers ahead.
During the last few minutes of play, the team work of the Volunteers was excellent, and they ran the ball down the floor for several goals in rapid succession. In the second half, the locals scored twenty-one points, as against the five of the visitors.
For the locals, the best work was done by Klein and Reeder, forwards who made 27 of the 35 points accredited to their team. Klein had five goals from the field to his credit, while Reeder had four field goals and nine goals from free throws, following called fouls. Reeder's goal shooting from free throws was one of the features of the game, as he missed only two goals out of eleven attempts.
Tuttle, the big halfback who starred in the game with Tennessee last Thanksgiving day, showed up best for the visitors. He guarded Reeder, and in the first half played the local crack to a standstill, keeping him from getting but one goal from the field. In the first period, Tuttle made two field goals, but in the second half, Reeder had the advantage, shooting three goals from the field while Tuttle got none.
The teams will meet again tonight in the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium and the game will be started promptly at seven o'clock.

VOLUNTEERS VS. COLONELS
Big Basketball Game on Tonight's Schedule
It Will Be First Opportunity to Really Test Strength of Tennessee Team
Five members of the football team which was seen in action on Walt field on Thanksgiving day, will compose the Kentucky State basketball team, which meets the University of Tennessee quintet tonight in the first "big" basketball game of the season on a local court. The game will be staged in the gymnasium of the Central Y.M.C.A. and play will be started promptly at eight o'clock.
Tuttle, the big halfback, who was the star for the Kentucky team in the gridiron struggle a few months ago, plays guard on the basketball team and it is said that he played just as well on the basketball floor as on the football field. If this report is true, the Tennessee forward that plays against him will hardly attain fame by shooting goals from the field tonight.
According to the advance dope, the Kentucky team is one of the strongest that has been turned out by the Lexington institution in several years, so the local collegians will probably have troubles of their own tonight and tomorrow night, for the Kentuckians are to play two games here.
Tennessee has not lost a game this season, but the Volunteers have not been up against any very formidable aggregations, so just how they will show up against a bunch of husky scrappy fellows such as the Kentuckians are, remains to be seen. Coach Clevenger has been giving his proteges a lot of work this week, and they should be in good trim for the fray tonight.
It is expected that the game tonight and Saturday night will be largely attended, for they are the only games of consequence that the Volunteers will play at home this season. Much interest has been manifested in the contests, and quite a number of persons who admit that they never attended a basketball game, have declared that they are going to be on hand for the game tonight.
