UNIVERSITY DEFEATS MARYVILLE COLLEGE
MARYVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 4 -- The University of Kentucky basketball team defeated Maryville College tonight by a score of 23 to 22 in the first game of their four days' southern trip. Captain Ralph Morgan starred, scoring five field goals. State had a lead of six points at the end of the first half, but during the second half, which was very rough, Maryville led in scoring and Kentucky was barely able to nose out a victory.
Coach Brumage in his telegram to The Herald stated that the team was in good condition and would put up a hard fight against Tennessee, whom they play at Knoxville tonight and tomorrow nights. The absence of Scott and Schrader from the lineup due to injuries weakens the team, but the Volunteers will have to put up a stiff fight to defeat the Wildcats, who are smarting from their defeat on the gridiron last fall received at the hands of the Tennessee football team.
