STATE COLLEGE TEAM BEATEN.
Coliseum Five Defeats Lexington Basketball Club By Score of 30 to 18
The coliseum basketball team, of this city, defeated the Kentucky State College five, intercollegiate champions of the State, last night by the score of 30 to 18, in one of the most exciting contests seen on a local court this year.
The result of the game put an entirely new and unique aspect on the State championship race. State College recently defeated Central University, who, in turn, proved victorious over the locals. The outcome of last night's game at least entitles the locals to another game with the Danville aggregation.
While the local team led from the beginning of the game last night, its margin was small enough until the last few minutes of play to keep the big audience on the qui vive. Lehmann, the local star, was at his best, and threw goals from every angle of the field. He tossed five goals from field and five from the foul line, besides participating in nearly every play leading up to a score made by the locals. Capt. Leighton Arthur also did himself proud, making eight scores and blocking the splendid teamwork of the visitors in great style.
Clifford Moss proved himself a tower of strength to Coliseum. he particularly excelled in handling throws and in general headwork. Harding and Fox contributed no small part in winning the contest.
Despite their defeat, it can be readily understood how the State team comes to lead the race among the Kentucky colleges. There are no particular stars on the five, but its team work is probably superior to that of any team, Yale excepted, which has appeared here this season.
Maury Wilson, a Louisville boy of the class of '06 of the High School, played the star game for State. Wilson has developed into one of the fastest players in the State since he left Louisville and also excels in other forms of indoor athletics. Except for a few injudicious throws last night, he put up a perfect game.
Post, forward for State, scored the largest number of points for State, tossing four goals. the local team showed conclusively that its recent poor showing was due to staleness. The players' layoff of a week put them on perfect edge and they played the fastest contest of the year.
The locals have a a hard game for Saturday night next, when they meet Wabash College, intercollegiate leaders of Indiana. Most of the Hoosier players weigh in the neighborhood of 175 pounds and are said to be fast and game.

STATE CHAMPIONS ARRIVE IN CITY
Team Leading Kentucky Intercollegiate Race, Which Will Meet Coliseum Tonight, Is in Great Shape
The State College basketball team, accompanied by a big band of rooters, came in this morning and are quartered at the homes of various High School and Manual friends. The Lexington players are in great shape for the game with the Coliseum five tonight and hope to continue their triumphal march to the intercollegiate championship of the State, in which race they are now leading.
It has been definitely decided by the State coach to put two Louisville boys in tonight's game. They are Maury Wilson of the class of '04 of the Male High School and George Brockman, of the class of '05 of Manual. They will play the forwards. The local team will be composed of Lehmann, center; Arthur and Clifford Moss, forwards, and Harding and Fox, guards.
Capt. Arthur is confident of victory, despite the recent mediocre showing of his team against Central. The Coliseum five met State two weeks ago and the game resulted in a score of 29 to 28 in favor of the college team. The game was played on the State's court, which worked some little hardship on the locals, who had been accustomed to playing on the larger local field. The winning point was made just as the umpire's whistle blew announcing the game at a close, and many believed that the toss was made too late to count. The game will be called promptly at 9 o'clock.
