Y.M.C.A. WINS
STATE CHAMPIONSHIP CLINCHED
College Boys Defeated After Hard Fight on Both Sides - Considerable Rough Playing During the Game
In one of the hardest fights that they have had this season, the Young Men's Christian Association basket ball team defeated State College by the score of 23 to 19 Saturday night. This was the second game these teams have played this season, the first also being won by the Association boys. The winning of this game gives the Association team the championship of the State beyond a doubt.
Rough plays were strung throughout the game, and Referee Yancey was compelled to call a number of fouls on both teams.
Y.M.C.A. started off at a whirlwind gait, and during the first ten minutes of play had State at its mercy. Toward the close of the first half the tables were turned, and at the end of the half State was the winner by four points. In this half Post, the State forward, made an excellent basket by throwing a goal from the center of the field. In the second half the Association boys came back with a do-or-die determination and by brilliant playing ran the score up to 23, when the whistle blew.
The Association boys did not put up as strong a game as they have been doing. Their team work was poor at most stages of the game, while State College played a good consistent game. Post and Fox did the best playing for State, while Howard Guyn did the goal-throwing for the Association team.
