Obituary - Leo Brewer, San Antonio (TX) Light (November 5, 1965)
In his field of the law, Leo Brewer was both a teacher and a writer in addition to becoming one of San Antonio's best known practicing attorneys.
He joined the law faculty of the University of Texas nearly 40 years ago, but returned to this city in 1928 to resume private practice.
Subsequently, he joined the faculty of St. Mary's University School of Law, where material that he compiled on municipal corporation law is now used as a textbook.
Mr. Brewer has served on the editorial board of the Texas Law Review, for which he wrote extensively. And for eight years he was a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association.
In 1914, when the lights were going out all over Europe, he graduated from the Harvard Law School. When the U.S. entered the war, Mr. Brewer became an officer in the field artillery, rose to captain and was decorated for gallantry in action in France.
At home, he gave much time and effort to the community for the improvement of education. He had served as president of the School Board and of the Library Board and at the time of his death, he was a trustee of St. Mary's Law School.
In recent years he had retired from his post as a member of the large law firm now known as Matthews, Nowlin, Macfarlane & Barrett.
Leo Brewer came from Kentucky. We are grateful that he chose to make his career in San Antonio.

Leo Brewer, age 76, of 107 E. Gramercy, died Wednesday a a local hospital. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Service Thursday at 3 o'clock at Christ Episcopal Chrch, Dr. Samuel Orr Capers officiating. Pallbearers: P.H. Swearingen Jr., W.T. Chumney Jr., Pat S. Chumney, Lewis Taver, Damon Ball, Albert McNeel Jr., Raymond Weber, Dr. I.C. Skinner Jr. Honorary pallbearers: Members of the first Officers Training Camp, St. Mary's University Law School Faculty, Conopus Club and Torch Club. Private Interment in Mission Burial Park.
