Obituary - N.E. Stone Found Dead; Well Known Road Contractor, Paducah Sun-Democrat (October 16, 1940)
N.E. Stone, of Madisonville, Ky., well known highway and bridge construction contractor, was found dead in bed at his apartment at 2172 Bridge Street here at 5:30 o'clock this morning.
Death was caused by a heart attack or an attack of indigestion, according to Acting Coroner James K. Polk. Friends said he had been in good health.
Mr. Stone had been a contractor for 26 years, and for the past 10 years had maintained an office in Paducah. He was regarded as the leading road contractor in West Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie A. Stone, a brother, W.B. Stone, of Madisonvile, and two sisters, Mrs. Kythelene Angel of Madisonville, and Mrs. Richie Jamison, of Nashville, Tenn.
The body was taken to Madisonville for funeral services and burial.
Mr. Stone's company is engaged in several projects in this area at the present time. It is building the new highway bridge across Perkins Creek on the Cairo Road in McCracken County, has a grade and drain job at Moscow, a street surfacing project in Murray, and is blacktopping a highway out of Princeton. It was announced at the company's office here that work these projects will not be disrupted by Mr. Stone's death.
