Blue and White Overcomes 18 to 17 Lead at Half to Chalk Up Fourth Conference Triumph

TENNESSEE NEXT ON CARD

Kentucky's Blue Warriors, with the same determined spirit that brought honor and fame in 1921, came to themselves in the final half of the game with Auburn at the University gymnasium last night and won their fourth straight conference game from the Purple and Gold five by the score of 35 to 26.

The Wildcats took an early lead and looked like easy winners at the start, but late in the initial half, the basket seemed to dodge their heaves and Auburn forged ahead at the halfway point by the count of 18 to 17.

For the sixth time in the last nine games, all of which Kentucky has won, the Blue and White were the laggers in the first period, but came back in the stretch to win. With a determined spirit in the last half of the contest with Auburn, Coach Eklund's quintet covered every man with an eagle eye and in the meantime caged enough baskets to cop the game.

Kentucky has not only won its last nine starts, but four of these were strong Southeastern Conference opponents. The Wildcats have a clean slate in the conference race and now are leading the procession with a 1,000 percentage.

Jenkins High Scorer

No individual stars prevailed on the Auburn slate and it also would be difficult to pick a Kentucky star. Every man on the floor missed many shots and the shooting at all stages of the game was way off. Paul Jenkins, who has proved his worth to the Blue and White in every game, came around with his usual scoring and listed up 10 markers. Gayle Mohney, although he was taken from the game at the half, tallied seven points, as did McFarland.

For the visitors Hall, lanky center, who made eight points, did some excellent floor work and was ably assisted by his teammates, Ellis and Akin, who made seven markers each. Captain McKinney was a brilliant floor performer and led his team in great style.

Kentucky displayed a wonderful defense, led by Captain Carey, who managed to remain in the game until 70 seconds before the end of the game when he was relieved on personal fouls.

The Wildcats possessed an eager eye for foul shots, sinking nine out of ten throws, while Auburn counted only six out of 12 free throws.

Tennessee is Next

Kentucky's next foe, Tennessee's Volunteers, will be victims or victors of a contest at Knoxville Thursday night. The Blue and White will leave Lexington Thursday for the Tennessee city. The Vols will be Kentucky's fifth Conference opponent and the Blue and White with a decided edge, expect to turn in another victory.

Coach "Daddy" Boles' Kitten five will journey to Winchester tonight for a game with the Wesleyan College Cubs. Previously the Green and White defeated the Cubs. The Kittens will leave from the gymnasium in charge of Mr. Boles at 5 o'clock this afternoon.
