VANDERBILT DEFEATS WILDCATS, 39 TO 34
Commodores Play Lightning Finish in the Second Half of Play
PLAY AGAIN TONIGHT
Kentucky Has Lead 21-12 at End of First Period of Contest
Vanderbilt University was returned the victor by the score of 39 to 34 in the basketball game with State University at the Woodland Park Auditorium here last night. The wonderful goal throwing of Davidson, Vanderbilt's captain, who was able to locate the basket for nine field and five foul goals, was largely responsible for State's defeat. For Kentucky, Server, the big center, threw seven field goals, several of these being from difficult positions.
Although Kentucky State had a 21 to 12 lead at the end of the first half, she seemd to give down under the fine teamwork of the visitors. Woodard went in for Vanderbilt at center in place of Reyer and threw four field goals during this period. During the last half Vanderbilt put up one of the prettiest lightening finishes seen here this season.
The first half was played under Y.M.C.A. Athletic Union rules and the last half was played under the Intercollegiate rules.
The freak game between the Aeroplanes and the Submarines which was to have taken place as a preliminary was called off.
An opportunity to even things up with their masters of last evening will be given the Wildcats this evening when they again tackle the boys from Vanderbilt on the floor of the auditorium at Woodland Park. This contest is expected to be the fastest of the two, since State will make every effort to bid their visitors goodbye with the scores even.
