STATE WINS
CENTRAL BASKET BALL GAME
Good Contest Between College Teams in Which Local Team is Victorious 24 to 23
It was "23" for Central University Wednesday afternoon at the close of the basket ball game with State University, in the State University gymnasium. Twenty-three might have sounded well once to the Crimson squad had not their opponents been successful in passing the much dreaded number, polling 24 points. The game began with a rush and was one of the fastest and fiercest throughout ever witnessed between two Kentucky teams. During the first five minutes of the game neither side was able to throw a goal, then Hess scored two points for the visitors. C.U. kept up her good work and had made seven points before the blue and white team were able to score.
Both teams were about equally matched but Central seemed to have the better of the good throwing during the first half and the score at its close was 15 to 8 in her favor.
The second half of the game was very exciting.
State's work at the goal had improved and she had soon overhauled her opponent. Both teams put forth supreme efforts and the close was intensely exciting.
In the last few minutes of play, first Central would be ahead then State would take the lead. Thus, they changed a number of times before the referee's whistle blew for the close. During the game each team was given a point because the rules were violated by the other. There were no particular stars in the game, but both teams played well and at times showed good team work.
