James Chambers
DALLAS (AP) - James F. chambers, founder of Chambers Construction Co. and father of James F. Chambers Jr., chairman of the board and publisher of the Dallas Times Herald, died Sunday. he was 85.
Chambers had been active in business and civic affairs in Dallas for more than 50 years. He began his career at Houston in 1909 and later moved to Austin, where he supervised he construction of several buildings for the University of Texas. He came to Dallas in 1916 and retired in 1955.
Born in Owensboro, Ky., he attended the University of Kentucky.
In Dallas, he was a member of Hella Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Bodies and the First Baptist Church.
Private funeral services were set for this afternoon at Sparkman-Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel with burial at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Fred Honea Jr., three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of Dallas.
