Obituary - Alexandria (LA) Town Talk (December 3, 1966)
Attack is Fatal to Roy Mundorff
ATLANTA (AP) - Roy M. Mundorff, who coached Georgia Tech to its only Southeastern Conference basketball championship, died Friday night at an Atlanta hospital. He was 66.
He suffered a heart attack Thursday night at a Tech game, and doctors said he was improving until stricken by another attack Friday.
Mundorff, a native Pennsylvanian who helped found the National Basketball Coaches Association and served one term as president, guided Tech from 1925 through 1942, compiling a 164-129 won-lost record.
His 1936-37 team - captained by present Yellow Jacket Coach John Hyder - compiled an 11-1 conference season, and the following year captured the title with 18 victories in 20 games.
Mundorff also served as assistant athletic director at Tech and as athletic director at the University of Louisville. From 1954 to 1964 he was coordinator of SEC cage officials.
