Wildcats Get Even with Volunteers
Kentucky Quintet Takes Second Games of Series by Eight-Point Margin
KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 28. -- With Haydon, Kentucky's crack forward, sinking the sphere at almost every attempt, and the Wildcats running at large despite the consistent blanketing efforts of Tennessee, the Kentucky State quintet divided the series here by taking tonight's game with the Volunteers by a count of 34 to 26.
The Vols offered a consistently stiffer opposition than Friday night, when they managed to nose out a victory with a spectacular eleventh hour rally, but the visitors had their passing game working at top notch throughout both periods.
Unlike Friday night, the Kentuckians managed to locate the cage, with the result that they took the lead from the beginning. The first period ended with the Vols struggling valiantly to add to the small end of a 16 to 10 score.
Coach Bender, Tennessee pilot, repeated his stunt of the previous night by sending in the same combination in the second period which throttled the Kentuckians Friday night, and while the Vols offered a stiffened resistance in the second half, the lead which the Wildcats piled up earlier in the fray proved too great to overcome.
