ON THE CAMPUS
In a brilliant and hard fought game Georgetown College defeated Kentucky State University at the local gymnasium Monday night. A splendid audience turned out to see the game which was won by splendid team work and accurate goal throwing. Covington and Allen, forwards for the local team were too much for the Cadet guards who were inclined to play roughly at times. Stevens also played well. The Cadets' team work was not up to the usual standard and this was largely responsible for their defeat. The final score was 30 to 22.Game Writeup - Lexington Herald
STATE COLLEGE BEATEN BY GEORGETOWN TEAM
Local Basket Ball Players Taken Into Camp By the Score of 30 to 22
GEORGETOWN, Ky., Feb. 10 - The Georgetown College basket ball team defeated the strong team from Kentucky State College in the local gymnasium tonight in the best game seen here this season by the score of 30 to 22. Georgetown took a nice lead at the start which they held throughout the game. But the cadets kept things lively and the result of the game was in doubt all the way through. The score at the end of the first half was 19 to 13 in favor of Georgetown. The second half was closer than the first as Georgetown made 11 points and the State College team 9. A good crowd was in attendance mostly from Georgetown and Georgetown College, as contrary to expectations not many State College came down. An unusually large crowd of girls from Rucker Hall was in attendance . The best work for Georgetown was done by Covington, the fast forward. Arthur Allen, the other forward, also put up a good game, as did Collins at center. Capt. Stevens and Kilmer guarded their men well and made a number of points each. Fox was probably best for his team, but every member put up a good game. Post, Downing, Wilson and Capt. Barbee each played a good game doing their level best to win. Referee Guyn gave universal satisfaction. None of his decisions were objected to. The lineup was as follows:
Georgetown College - Forwards, Covington and A. Allen, center Collins, guards, Stevens (Capt.) and Kelner.
Kentucky State College - Forwards Post and Fox, center Downing, guards Nelson and Barb (Capt.)
Referee - John Guyn (Lexington); Umpire - Hinton (Georgetown); Scorer - Hagan (Georgetown); Assistant Scorer - Earle (Kentucky State College); Timekeeper - Howard (Georgetown); Time of halves, 20 minutes.
