BASKET-BALL
KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY DEFEATS STATE COLLEGE BY A DECISIVE SCORE
By the decisive score of 19 to 5, State College went down in defeat before Kentucky University Thursday night in one of the roughest and most spirited basket ball games ever witnessed in Lexington.
The game was played in the University, and a large and enthusiastic crowd was present, giving their cheers to their respective teams.
This was the second game of the series, State College winning the first by a narrow margin. The Crimson boys were determined to outdo the Cadet boys in this game, and they went into the game with such a rush that their opponents were completely carried off their feet. The Cadets were only able to pitch two goals and one foul, both goals being pitched in the first half. Much roughness was used throughout the game and it looked more like a foot ball game than a mere basket ball game. Hurdling forward passes, end runs and slugging were all brought into play.
The game was won by superior team work and fast playing. Captain Evans did the feature work for K.U. Eighteen fouls were called on the State College team and Campbell, of K.U., succeeded in pitching nine of them. Six fouls were called on K.U. and one was pitched.
Game Writeup - Lexington Herald
KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY BEATS STATE COLLEGE
It was one of the roughest and most spirited basket ball games ever witnessed in Lexington. Kentucky University defeated State College last night in the University gymnasium by the overwhelming score of 19 to 5. This is the second game of the series, State College winning the first by a narrow margin.
Determined to even thing up with the Cadets, the Crimson lads went into the game with such a rush that their opponents were completely carried off their feet and were only able to pitch two goals and one foul, both goals being pitched in the first half. To the enthusiastic crowd of spectators who huddled close to the walls for protection, it looked more like a football game than a mere basket ball game.
Hurdling, end runs, forward passes, and slugging were all brought into play. The gymnasium is unfortunate in having a gas jet with a handsome large globe attachment at each end, near the baskets. Four times during the game these globes were brought into play and were shattered, delaying the game considerably.
Superior team work and fast playing won the game. The playing of Captain Evans of the University team was the feature of the game. Eighteen fouls were called on the State College team and Campbell of K.U. succeeded in pitching nine of them. Six fouls were called on K.U. and one was pitched.
Shanklin pitched both fouls for State and Campbell, Evans, Waggoner and Green pitched the goal for the University.
