Obituary - Decatur (IL) Herald & Review (January 10, 2004)
by Mark Tupper
..Friends were stunned to hear that [Decatur resident Ralph] Rosser had died of a massive heart attack in Cumming, Ga., at the age of 54.
Rosser was a considerable presence during his years in Decatur.
He was a prep basketball standout for coach Ray DeMoulin at MacArthur High School, graduating in 1968 as the team's 6-foot-6 center.
Working for the Decatur Park District, he was the supervisor of recreation under Jerry Menz. Then, after a successful tenure, he was promoted to Director of Parks, succeeding Harold Blankenship.
Ralph had a special interest for Scovill Zoo and worked for its betterment and expansion. The Decatur Parks Foundation plans to consider a memorial in his honor and contributions can be made on that regard.
An avid tennis player, Ralph also gained national notoriety for his work as a college basketball referee. He officiated in one of the era's major matchups when Virginia with Ralph Sampson squared off against Georgetown and Patrick Ewing.
Ralph is survived by his wife and two children. His mother Zelma, continues to reside in Decatur.
