Frank M. Sowecke, 88
SCOTSDALE, Ariz. - Frank M. Sowecke, 88, teacher and coach, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 in Arizona after a stroke.
Born in Dayton, his 1941-42 basketball team in Somerset, won the state basketball tournament. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from teaching in 1972 and was a longtime basketball referee, having worked in the Big Ten for many years and for three years in the NBA. He also served as a talent scout for the Cleveland Indians in the 1960s.
Surviving are five children, Thomas of Tempe, Ariz., Frank Jr. of North Olmsted, Jane of Huron, Bryan of Seattle and Tim of Huron; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jane Moloney, who died in 1992.
