The Wildcats bounced back from their defeat at the hands of Arizona with a solid 77-55 win over the Missouri Tigers. Kentucky trailed only by the score of 2-0 before cruising. The Wildcats were led in scoring and rebounding by Jamaal Magloire who had 18 pts and 17 rebounds. UK won 3rd place in the Maui Classic with this victory, and Kentucky was ranked #8 in the nation when this game was played.


Allen Edwards hit a 19 footer, followed by 3 FTs awards after being fouled outside the line, and UK was off to the races. Thanks to Magloire and Padgett, the lead expanded to 12-3 before the Tigers could stem the bleeding with a Thames long 2. Following a Saul Smith 3, the Cats led 23-13, which became 27-13 at the start of the 3rd quarter, after a Magloire FG and pair of FTs.


Minutes later, Sheppard put back his own miss to make it 33-17, and he added a turnaround jumper to go up 35-17. In fact, Kentucky hit every 1 of its FT attempts until radio commentator Ralph Hacker pointed out the fact, whereupon of course Saul Smith finally missed 1 of 2, but the Wildcats still led 36-17. Thames and Lee scored for Missouri, but when Evans put in a basket on his 3rd try, UK was up 40-19. Padgett scored off a lob dunk to make it 45-22, and Parker hit a FT to close on the scoring in the 1st half with the margin 45-24.


The Cats were a bit more casual in the 2nd half, although Turner started things off with a 3. The lead reached 54-30 (UK would have a 24 pt margin a few more times in the 3rd quarter), but aggressive play by Hardge, Decker, Parker, and Woods (who hit a pair of 3s) allowed the Tigers to rally at 61-45 as the end quarter ended.

Kentucky surged back out to take a 69-47 lead on a Magloire putback. UK at 1 pt led 76-49, its largest margin of the afternoon, with a Turner layup, but then Missouri closed to 76-54 after a dry spell by the Cats. Decker and Anthony each made 1 of 2 FT tosses to finish the scoring with the final margin 77-55.
