UT-Martin Game:
Kentucky breezed to an easy 124-50 victory over the highly outmatched Pacers of Tennessee-Martin. The 74 point margin of victory set a new school record for victory margins in Rupp Arena (surpassing the 101-40 dismemberment of Tennessee during the SEC tournament in 1993).
Seven Wildcats scored in double figures in this contest, during which UK had a 15-0 spurt early on and never looked back. Early in the first half, the Pacers turned the ball over 12 times in a row which enabled UK to take a 27-4 lead after the game was tied 2-2. The lead mushroomed to 62-24 at the half. With nearly 12 minutes left in the game, UK had already managed 88 points and showed no signs of stopping. Both Sheppard and Rhodes played some at the point guard position to build experience.
The score later reached 90-37 and then 100-45 on a short jumper by Walker. Another 11-0 run followed to put the Cats up 111-45. Kentucky's press appeared to bother the Pacers all night, as 42 turnovers were recorded against UTM with the Cats giving up only 8 themselves [JNB note - the radio broadcasters were unsure whether this was an all-time Kentucky record in creating turnovers, but it might be. I can't seem to find TOs listed in the UK media guide's record section. Anyone know?]. The 23 steals matches Kentucky's single game record (earlier set against Mississippi State in 1991). The 74 point victory margin was only 3 short of the all-time record set against Georgia in 1956 (when the Wildcats won 143-66).
Prickett had a good night, leading all scorers with 21 points and rebounders with 8 (tied with Riddick). He shot 10-11 from the floor. UK continues to improve game by game in free throw shooting, hitting on 78.6% in this contest.
Antoine Walker (#24) scores on a breakaway while Demarko Wright (#30) looks on from afar
Andre Riddick (#10) blocks the shot of UT-Martin's Gregor Bojovic (#41)while Jared Prickett looks on
Mark Pope reaches for a rebound
