INDIANA FIVE TRIPS KENTUCKY
Wildcats Find Pace Too Stiff for Them; Jeffries High Scorer
BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 4. -- Kentucky opened up on Indiana University's Big Ten quintet here tonight and gained an 8-to-1 advantage before the Hoosiers found themselves, following a between-semester layoff. Indiana came back strong, however, and won, 48 to 29.
Strickland, with nine field goals and one foul marker, was the star for Indiana, while Jeffries, with five field goals, was high man for Kentucky. The Wildcats were fast during the first half, but the great pace they have been going in their southern conference race seemed to tell on them. Substitutions were numerous on both sides during the second half.
Strickland started the scoring shortly after the first tip-off by caging a free throw when fouled by Jenkins. After this, the play for a few minutes was in midcourt, with Indiana blowing three shots, due to vicious guarding. McCracken fouled McGinnis, as he shot for the basket, and made his field goal which counted. McGinnis missed the first free throw but made the second. Kentucky 3, Indiana 1.
