WILDCATS LOSE TO U.T. QUINTET
Troutman Stars for Orange and White in Opening Game of Season
In a contest featured by many star plays on the part of Troutman and Sullivan, the University of Tennessee quintet downed the Kentucky State Wildcats by a score of 40-22 in the initial game of the season at the Y.M.C.A. A fair sized audience witnessed the opening game and whooped things up for the home boys.
Lum Reeder did not appear in the lineup for the U.T. owing to illness. His place was ably filled by Joe Sullivan, who showed some of that skill which made him a terror in high school circles the last two years.
Kentucky State came here determined to make a clean up but they could not stand the hard pace set by the Orange and White five. After a few minutes of play it was evident that the U.T. boys were going to make a runaway race out of the contest.
Callaway and Magers gave an exhibition of wonderful defense work and puzzled the visiting players by their great work. This pair which is conceded to be one of the best backfield combinations in the south were right on the heels of their opponents at all times and prevent them from scoring at critical times.
Janes, at center for the U.T., also put up a good game and beat his opponent on the jump and also aided materially in the offensive work of his team.
