Wildcats Start Basketball Rolling with 23-13 Victory
The college basketball season burst forth with the customary blaze of excitement last night at the University of Kentucky gymnasium, when the Wildcats messed up Kentucky Wesleyan, from Winchester, by a 23 to 13 count. The game was fraught with all the lively catch-as-catch can wrestling features which make the game one of the most interesting and violent exercises. From the first Daddy Bole's Wildcats were headed for a victorious finish.
Thomas, the the High School product, who made his first formal appearance in Wildcat slippers, sprinkled stardust over the hardwood of the gymnasium, and flopped the bloated pumpkin-shaped cause of the argument into the so-called basket five times. Pat Campbell, newly elected captain of the team shot two goals and Shanklin, McKinney, Zerfoss and Bastin obtained one apiece. George Zerfoss, at forward, threw after fouls, which were few, and dropped the ball in once to make up the total of 23 points.
Daddy Boles last night was pleased with the appearance of his collection. The team started the encounter with Thomas at center, Zerfoss and Campbell at forwards and Bastin and Bartee at guards. Marsh succeeded Thomas, Glickman succeeded Bartee, Shanklin took Zerfoss' place and all the subs showed up well.
