For the U.C. Basket Ball Team Was Kentucky State at Varsity Gym Yesterday
The Cincinnati University basket ball team easily defeated the Kentucky State University five yesterday afternoon at the varsity gym by the score of 47 to 17. The Kentucky State boys are supposed to be the champions of the Blue Grass Region, but, like many others of the championship clubs, were no match for U. of C. They only scored one field goal in the first half, that coming on a long chance. They scored four field goals in the second half, and, with Plummer's seven foul goals, totaled a number of 17 points for the game. The score at he end of the first half was 26 to 6.
Captain Easton and Tiny Moore were the bright stars on the U. of C. team, while Ike Stewart's playing was also a little hefy. Easton scored eight field goals and nine foul goals for a total of 25 points, while Tiny Moore shoved the ball in the basket for nine field goals. The U. of C. forwards were altogether too fast for Kentucky, while, on the other hand, it was easy for Coach Schroetter's players to get the ball back from Kentucky once after it was lost. As soon as K.U. would receive the ball it would be taken right out of their hands again by U. of C. men. They showed no inclination to "stick." Bennett and Heisel proved too much for the Kentucky forwards, and it was a hard proposition for them to get anything by said Heisel and Bennett. Easton and Stewart played well together, and with Tiny Moore, formed a proposition which was hard for Kentucky to solve.
On several occasions the ball touched no more than three hands when Easton scored some field goals. After the throw-up Stewart would jump in and recover the ball from Moore, and on a back-hand pass shove the ball to Easton, who would throw it in the basket. The play was great to look upon and all came about so suddenly that Kentucky was completely baffled.
Plummer and Gaiser, who was substituted in the second half for Hart, played good ball for Kentucky. Threlkeld's two field goals were beautiful long shots.
Toward the close of the battle, when University of Cincinnati had it cinched, Coach Schroetter tried out three of the substitutes.
