Former Vanderbilt Coach Dies
James Leslie Buford, former registrar and varsity basketball coach of Vanderbilt University, died Tuesday in Owensboro at the NHE nursing home. He was 81.
He was a resident of 200 Revere Lane in Franklin, Tenn., before he moved 2-1/2 years ago to Owensboro, which is the home of a daughter, Mrs. Royce (Lucy) Dawson.

After a leave of absence for overseas service in the American Red Cross from 1943 to 1945, Buford returned to Vanderbilt where he became registrar.
In 1960, he resigned from Vanderbilt to join the staff of the College Entrance Examination Board, where he remained until his retirement in 1966.

His wife, Lucy Green Buford, died in 1979.
