MC DONALD Arthur William McDonald Teacher and coach, 59 NCAA basketball official Arthur William McDonald, 59, of East Rutherford died on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St., West Orange, at 8:30 a.m. Then to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave., West Orange, for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. The interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery in New York. Visiting will be on Friday from 12 to 4 p.m.
Born in Queens, N.Y., Mr. McDonald lived in Montclair and Long Island before moving back to New Jersey. Mr. McDonald attended Cardinal Farley Military Academy in Rhinebeck, N.Y. He graduated from Kings College in Pennsylvania with a B.A. in political science. He was a teacher and coach at Pope Paul VI High School in Clifton and Queen of Peace in North Arlington.
Mr. McDonald had a successful career as a NCAA basketball official, working for various conferences, including the Big East, Atlantic Ten, Conference USA, Big Twelve and for the past 15 years in the Big Ten. His basketball officiating career spanned 35 years and was highlighted by five appearances in the Elite Eight. Mr. McDonald was also a referee for NCAA lacrosse and was a league assigner of the CACC Conference. He lived by the philosophy that strangers were only people that were not yet his friends. Mr. McDonald was the devoted father of Keith McDonald and Lori Bryan; the loving brother of the late Arlene Shea and Barbara Favorite, and cherished grandfather of Ella and Ava Bryan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Kings College Athletic Department, 133 North River St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18711.
