University of Cincinnati Shows the Kentuckians a Few Things
Fighting to the finish the University of Cincinnati basket ball team defeated the Kentucky State Wildcats by the score of 28 to 18 last night at the University Gym. The game was one of the best contests ever seen at the Varsity Gym, and all of Cincinnati followers turned out in large numbers.
Varsity got started right at the beginning of the game, and at the end of the first half they were leading by the score of 18 to 15. In the second half the Wildcats came on the floor with more team work and "pep," and for a time the Cincinnati team was completely at sea. The Wildcats gained on Varsity's team and for a while it looked like they might win, but the Cincinnati team pulled itself together and they scored six points in the last 5 minutes of play.
It was the first in years that Cincinnati and the Kentucky State competed in athletics of any kind. The Cincinnati team was without the services of Howard Justice, one of its best men, who cannot play on account of the ineligible rule that prohibits men who have been in athletics three years from playing.
Goldman, forward, and Haehnle, guard, each played exceptionally good games at their positions for Cincinnati. Thomas, of the Wildcats, caused Varsity the most trouble, scoring 10 of his team's 18 points.
