Obituary - Beyond the Dash
Thomas Newton Harrington, passed away peacefully on Friday the 22nd of March, after an extended illness. He was 81.
Tom was born on December 30th 1937 in Greenwich, CT, the youngest of six children. After graduating from high school, Tom served in the military and then attended Monterrey Peninsula Junior College, where he embarked on a lengthy career in athletics. This included more than 30 years as an NCAA men's basketball official, most of them spent officiating games in the Pac-10. During his years as a ref, he officiated many of the Final 4 and championship games.
After years of running the courts and making the calls out west, Tom returned to his hometown of Greenwich, where he worked as a field monitor for the department of Parks and Recreation, and as a town crossing guard.
Services will be held at the completion of the college basketball season, in honor of Tom's love for the game and this time of year.
