HARRISBURG - James A. (Jim) Hernjak, 53, well-known and widely respected basketball official in central Pennsylvania area who went on to the Atlantic Coast Conference before retiring after the 1978-79 season, died Friday at Harrisburg Hospital after suffering a heart attack while playing tennis.
A Steelton High School graduate and World War II Navy veteran, Hernjak was administrative assistant to the general manager of Bethlehem Steel Corp in Steelton.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; a son, two daughters, three sisters and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church by the very Rev. Richard A. Yountz, his pastor. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Private viewing will be held at the funeral home at 3:57 S. Second St., Steelton, at the convenience of the family.
