Dayton Shocks UK
Tony Stanley played a brilliant game for Dayton, scoring 23 and leading Dayton to an upset victory over Kentucky 68-66.
The Kentucky Wildcats continued their shooting woes, blowing a ten point lead and losing to the Dayton Flyers 68-66. Ê Poor shooting and turnovers effectively stymied the Cats. Kentucky shot just 42.6% from the field and went 2-13 from three point range and turned the ball over 20 times.
As poorly as Kentucky played, they still had a chance to win the game at the end, but Tayshaun Prince missed a wide open three pointer as time expired.
For the second game in a row, the opposition's shooting guard scored at will. In this case, Tony Stanley played a brilliant game for Dayton, scoring 23 points on 8-12 FG shooting (including 5-6 from downtown).Ê Two of his three-pointers came at key times down the stretch.Ê He also had 5 rebounds and two steals.
Tayshaun Prince, Kentucky's leading scorer, had his worse showing of the year, shooting just 1-8 from the field. But Tayshaun's lack of productivity was not the only problem the Cats had tonight.Ê Saul Smith and J.P. Blevins, Kentucky's point guard tandem, combined for just 3 assists.Ê The team had only eight total assists.Ê Kentucky's shooting guards, Bogans and Allison, combined for 7 turnovers, as Dayton's defensive pressure kept the Wildcats offense off balance most of the night.
Tubby described his team as uptight, "I think we're just uptight," coach Tubby Smith said. "We had open looks, shots that I thought were not hotly contested. We just weren't able to knock them down. That's been with us a few games now."
On a positive note, the Wildcats, went 24-29 from the free throw line for an 82.4%, by far the Wildcats' best effort of the year from the stripe.
Kentucky's next game is this Saturday against Indiana, whom Kentucky has beaten 5 consecutive times.Ê Tipoff is at 3:30 PM at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
