Wildcats Gash a Gang of Gelatinous Gamecocks:
6th ranked Kentucky cruised to a 90-72 victory over South Carolina last week, and were led in scoring by Rodrick Rhodes (19 points) and Mark Pope (13 points, a career high). Anthony Epps handed out a career high 12 assists (which is also a season high for any Wildcat). Unfortunately, Tony Delk experienced an injury which may hold him out of the Syracuse game (more about that later). Malek Russell scored a game-high 22 points for USC.
UK maintained the lead for the entire game against the Gamecocks, who have never won in Lexington. Prior to the unexpected loss at the end of last season in Columbia, USC had last beaten Kentucky in 1933.
The Wildcats led 40-32 at the half, and experienced an 8-0 run to start the 2nd half. South Carolina played a bit more methodically this time than during their previous 80-55 loss in Columbia, possibly in order to prevent another big blowout. The Gamecocks closed to within 64-55 later in the 2nd half on a pair of William Unseld FTs with about 9 minutes left, but UK had a 10-2 mini-run to take a 74-57 lead with about 6.5 minutes remaining. [JNB notes - didn't catch this one on SportSouth, who had originally listed it as being televised, so my apologies for my limited coverage of the details of the contest.]
Andre Riddick (#10) dunks with authority
Anthony Epps (#25) gets his fingers on a shot by USC's Melvin Watson (#10)
