OVERWHELMS BASKET BALL FIVE FROM Y.M.H.A. OF LOUISVILLE

The State University 'varsity five delivered the Y.M.H.A. men from Louisville one of the old fashioned "crushing defeats," with a score of 59 to 12, last night at the Woodland Avenue Auditorium. The features of the game were the passing and guarding of the 'varsity five in the aggregate and the scoring of Karl Zerfoss and Preston, in particular Zerfoss threw 7 field goals; Preston 8 field goals and 3 free throws. The other State scoring was done by Morgan, with 1 field goal; Tuttle, 5 field goals; Scott, 4 field goals, and Park, substituting for Preston, 3 field goals.

Cohen, forward, made 6 of Y.M.H.A.'s points with 6 free throws; Shapinski, 2 tallies with 1 field goal, and Coleman 4 points, with 2 field goals.

LOUISVILLE HEBREWS ARE BEATEN BY STATE

Young Men From the Falls City Lose to University Basketball Team

In the first game played on the new auditorium floor State University easily defeated the Young Men's Hebrew Association of Louisville by the score of 59 to 12. The game was a substitute or the game with Heidelberg College, which was canceled last week, and the Louisville boys had to get together their team on short notice, leaving three regular at home, and showed the result in teamwork and other important features.

The new floor is an excellent one, well lighted, with good baskets and a large seating capacity. The only drawback is the fact that it is raised above the concrete floor beneath, causing a great deal of noise.

The game was delayed about an hour and a half owing to the Louisville boys arriving in Lexington late, their train being behind time. The crowd was a patient one, however, and thoroughly enjoyed the game when it was played.

State had the advantage in every department of the game. Their men were heavier and faster, besides passing and shooting better and displaying better teamwork. The first half of the game was played under the association rules and the second under the intercollegiate, the visitors being completely at sea on the latter style of play.

The first half ended with the score 29 to 5 in favor of the locals, the Louisville boys apparently having failed to get their bearings, as they did not score a single field goal in this period. In the second, by some long shots, they made three field goals and added materially to their score. State made twenty more points, with two substitutes in a part of the time.

For State, Zerfoss and Tuttle played a great game, while Cohen, Debrovy and Shapinski did good work for the visitors.
